PLAYOFFS ARE HERE!
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 862, comprised of the communities of Bath, Laingsburg, Ovid-Elsie and St. John's, is proud to announce its plans for the first annual Play-Offs. The 862 Play-offs will consist of all U10 and older teams playing their last 2 scheduled games of each season in a competitive atmosphere. Score keeping will take place, and medals will be awarded to the top 2 placing teams in each age division (for both girls and boys) after the randomly assigned round robin is complete. These play-offs will not affect the younger age divisions play, all age divisions will play a total of 8 games in the fall, and 7 games in the spring.
Two local coaches from the Laingsburg Community are spearheading the Finals effort, Richard Darr and Tim Barnett. According to the Regional Coordinator, Theresa Sheldon, "Coaches from all the communities have been asking for an increase in the competitiveness of the local leagues, now that they have been established for a while."
The play-offs will allow the 5 standing philosophies of AYSO to coexist with the brand new 6th philosophy of player development, which was just integrated into the national AYSO program
VIP PROGRAM
AYSO Region 862 is in the process of developing a VIP program in the area. Our Very Important Player program is designed for players with physical and/or mental disabilities age 4 by the beginning of the season and there is no upper age limit.
We are currently in search of a qualified individual to spear head the program. This person should have a strong interest in the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families. The VIP Administrator should be well organized and able to multi-task. This is a Regional Board position and therefore regional board meetings are mandatory. AYSO is committed to offering any training necessary to make this program a success.
The Mission of this program is to provide a quality soccer experience for individuals whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult for them to successfully participate on a mainstream soccer team. If you are interested in helping us reach out and make sure that all individuals are given the opportunity to play soccer please contact myself or your area coordinator to get the ball rolling in the right direction.
Yours in Soccer,
Theresa Sheldon
RC Region 862

U6 Soccer Academy
The Bath U6 Soccer Academy is a joint partnership between Bath Township Parks and Rec Department an the Bath Soccer Club. The Soccer Academy is a soccer program that does not have organized teams which emphasizes PLAYER DEVELOPMENT, TRAINING, and FUN! The curriculum that we use is followed by all participants who train together in small units for half of the time that we are together which is then followed by a "scrimmage" for the remainder of the training session. This style of Academy deemphsizes competition and emphasizes parent involvment and is the training style preferred by U.S. Soccer for this age group.
Academy Objectives/Goals
- Create a fun environment for both children and parents which allow kids to enjoy exercise through developing their soccer skills.
- Create an interest in soccer for both kids and parents.
- Begin the process of developing the skill of our players that will allow them toi start playing at a higher level.
- Identify potential coaches and begin the training process.
Academy Philosophy/Guiding Principles
- Fun at all times.
- Constant motion.
- Foot on the ball when at all possible.
- Coach on the fly.
- Focus on improving skills, not competition.
